Council permits in Randwick
Action Bins holds a council permit for Randwick. That is the part most people get stuck on, and it is already sorted.
If the bin goes on the road or the footpath in Randwick, you need a Placement of a Waste Storage Container in a Public Place (section 68) from Randwick City Council. The current charge is $200 for a bin up to 3m including the first seven days, then $205 a week, or $330 up front for anything longer than 3m, and you should allow standard processing, or 24 hours on the $95 fast-track for it to be processed.
Allowed, but Randwick surcharges footpath placement as a non-standard position.
The cheaper route, wherever it is possible, is to keep the bin on your own property. No permit, no fee, no waiting on council.
Getting a bin into Randwick
The streets around Coogee and Clovelly get tight and the parking pressure is real, which is why Randwick runs a fast-track option. If you are on a narrow street near the beach, book the bin for a weekday and get it collected before the weekend.

Suburbs we cover nearby
- Coogee
- Clovelly
- Kensington
- Kingsford
- Maroubra
- South Coogee
- Bronte
If your suburb is not on that list, call anyway. We run across the Sydney metropolitan area and we would rather tell you straight whether we can get to you than have you guess.
What you can put in the bin
- General household waste
- Green waste and garden clippings
- Furniture and white goods
- Renovation and strip-out waste
- Bricks, concrete and rubble
- Soil and excavation spoil
- Timber, plasterboard and offcuts
- Cardboard and packaging
What we cannot take
- Asbestos in any form
- Paint, solvents and chemicals
- Batteries and gas bottles
- Oils, fuels and liquids
- Food waste
- Medical or clinical waste
- Tyres (by arrangement only)
- Anything classified as hazardous
Asbestos is the one to be careful about. If you are stripping a wet area or a ceiling in anything built before the late 1980s, stop and get it tested before it goes anywhere near a skip. Putting asbestos in a general bin is an offence and it is expensive for everyone involved.
How ordering works
There is no booking form to wrestle with. You call, we ask what you are throwing out and where the bin is going, and we tell you the size and the price on the phone. If we can get it to you the same day we will say so, and if we cannot we will tell you that too rather than take the booking and leave you waiting.
When you are finished, call us and we collect it. Hire is seven days as standard.
Where the waste actually goes
Everything we collect goes to a licensed transfer station where it is sorted rather than tipped straight into landfill. Clean concrete, brick and green waste are the easiest streams to recycle and the cheapest to dispose of, which is why separating them saves you money as well as saving the load from landfill.
If you have two clearly different waste streams, ask about two bins. It often works out cheaper than one mixed bin, because mixed loads attract the highest disposal rate.

Common questions
Do I need a council permit for a skip bin in Randwick?
Only if it goes on the road or the footpath. On your own driveway or property, no permit is needed. For public placement Randwick City Council requires Placement of a Waste Storage Container in a Public Place (section 68), currently $200 for a bin up to 3m including the first seven days, then $205 a week, or $330 up front for anything longer than 3m.
How long does the permit take?
Allow standard processing, or 24 hours on the $95 fast-track with Randwick City Council. If your job is time critical, tell us when you call and we will work out whether a driveway placement gets you moving sooner.
Can you deliver to Randwick the same day?
Often yes. If we have a bin and a truck free we will get it to you the same day at no extra charge. If we cannot, we will say so rather than take the booking and leave you waiting.
What size bin do I need?
Count it in trailer loads, because one cubic metre is roughly one 6×4 box trailer. Most single-room renovations land on a 4m3 and most full house clear outs on a 6m3 or 8m3.
How long can I keep the bin?
Seven days as standard. If council has approved a shorter period for a public placement, that limit applies instead, and we will tell you what it is.
What can I not put in the bin?
No asbestos, no paint or chemicals, no batteries, gas bottles or liquids, and no food waste. Mattresses and tyres can go but they attract a separate charge, so mention them when you call.
