The most common mistake with a small bin is ordering two. A second bin costs the full delivery, collection and disposal again. If you are genuinely unsure between a 3m3 and a 4m3, take the 4m3.

Asbestos is the one to be careful about. If you are stripping a wet area or a ceiling in anything built before the late 1980s, stop and get it tested before it goes anywhere near a skip. Putting asbestos in a general bin is an offence and it is expensive for everyone involved.

What counts as a small skip bin?
In Sydney, 2m3 through 4m3. A 2m3 is one to two trailer loads, a 4m3 is three to four. All three fit within a standard parking space.
Which small bin should I choose?
If the job has a clear boundary, like one room or the garage, a 2m3 or 3m3 works. If you are renovating anything, take the 4m3. It is the most booked size in Sydney for a reason.
Do small skips have a door?
The 3m3 and 4m3 normally do. The 2m3 is usually top load only, so everything goes over the side.
Can a small skip go on the footpath?
It depends entirely on your council. Inner West says carriageway only. City of Sydney exempts residents on the roadway for up to 14 days. Bayside allows the verge. We will tell you the rule for your street.
Are small bins cheaper per cubic metre?
No, they are more expensive per cubic metre. The truck, the driver and the trip cost the same regardless of bin size. Small bins are cheaper in total, not better value by volume.
